Lincolnshire Special Constabulary: Documents of the Second World War Period

Warfare

With the onset of war in 1939 and more particularly after the Fall of France in 1940, with a threat of invasion and a growing reality of air raids, the number of part-time special constables in Lincolnshire was increased. For the dissemination of information and instructions, a monthly bulletin was published. At first, it was duplicated on foolscap (328 x 203 mm) sheets but the circulation was increased with Issue 4, dated 7th November 1940 and covering the month of October. Subsequent issues were in the form of an 8 pp. 215 x 139 mm booklet, printed by J.W. Ruddock, of Lincoln. This continued until rules arising from a national shortage of paper led to its appearing roughly once in two months as instructional pamphlets. Issue 27 was the last of the Bulletins, covering news from September 1942 (issued 5th October).

I have selected sample issues for transcription, beginning with No.4, as it is the earliest I have, probably because the name of the man to whom it was issued, Special Constable V. Gilbert, had not earlier been on the distribution list.

The present page serves as a list of contents providing links to the various transcriptions.
